First Try

For the first time today the sky has co operated for months, so got my new to me Celestron SS80, my newly arrived 1.25" Lunt WL wedge, my Svbony 10-30 zoom out side, all mounted on my SW Solar Helio Find mount. It all came together perfectly, the several sunspots visible came in and out of focus as expected but looked good especially between 10-15mm. There was quite a shine, a glare present probably due to moisture in the 0°F air so I threw on a variable polarizing filter to cut it back and the views improved 99%. Once again it proved the use of a variable polarizer on a bright solar day does the job and does it well, at least to some eyes. It sure felt great to be back out lookin' after a winter of long, cold dull skys, its been a while !

That SS80 is going to be a nice little fun scope for everything, a great compliment to my other various size refractors. By noon the sky was completly socked in !

As a bit of an aside, I have to say that compared solar viewing with my NP101 or my 127mm Antares using my Altair Astro 2" wedge vs the 1.25" Lunt wedge, my second one, I like the results better using the smaller scopes (62-80mm). Its hard to put a finger on yet, more comparison is needed I guess. And I can't use the Sol Searcher mount with those bigger tubes ie 13lb.-20lb.
