Post by dcrowson »

Arp 58, part of the ‘Spiral Galaxies with Small, High Surface Brightness Companions on Arms,’ consists of:

UGC 4457 (PGC 23935, VV 413 and others), the spiral with loose arms

PGC 23937 (2MASS J08320053+1912058 and others), the small companion on south of UGC 4457

These are located in Cancer a couple of degrees from M44.

There are a couple more interesting galaxies:

PGC 4571629 (SDSS J083129.83+191455.2) – a mag 18.6 (g) galaxy to the right (west) of UGC 4475

PGC 4168240 (WISEA J083131.00+192042.3) – a mag 17.5 (g) (flat?) galaxy near the top of the frame above PGC 4571629

Luminance – 24x600s – 240 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

360 minutes total exposure – 6 hours

Imaged February 15th and 16th and March 12th, 2023 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.

Hi Dan. An excellent image of Arp 58 taken through the Astro-Tech AT12RCT telescope at Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo, especially on the flickr site. Excellent contrast and wonderful details in this spiral galaxy. Thanks for sharing this capture and and informative text with us Dan and keep your great remote images coming on here.
