Splitting ε Lyrae into four stars?
I'm curious what size scopes and magnification people have used to resolve ε Lyrae (The Double Double) into four stars.

80mm frac works. The power will depend on the seeing conditions, optics quality and observe experience. I would say 80x and up.

I agree, I did it with my tele view 85 to 100x.
the quality of the sky is paramount to obtain a decent result.

Re: Splitting ε Lyrae into four stars?
With decent sky quality, I've split it with my 60mm, f/ 15 Unitron refractor...at 100X.

Re: Splitting ε Lyrae into four stars?
I had a little time this morning to have another look at ε with my 72ED. No joy at 100X, but I then Barlowed my 4mm and it looked like ε² split very briefly a couple of times. No split on ε¹ though.
I think I'll fire up my 102ED next and see how that does.

Re: Splitting ε Lyrae into four stars?
I was able to split in the 6" Achro at 120x. Have not tried it on the 102mm f/ 9.8 scope yet.

Re: Splitting ε Lyrae into four stars?
Alas, my ST120 was not up to the task this morning, even at 125X. But I did split it at 119X with my 102ED although it blurred out now and then. Guess that just reinforces that the 120 really is better suited for lower power, wide field observing.
