New Image: M82 HaLRGB

#1

Post by ic_1101 »

This is M82 a starburst galaxy (aka Cigar galaxy) in HaLRGB. I initially intended on capturing it using the QHY183C on the EdgeHD11 (with .7x reducer) which is oversampled a fair bit at 0.25"/pixel. My guiding was between 0.3 - 0.4 arcseconds per pixel with slightly better then average seeing. That was not quite good enough so that out of the 130 subs only 59 were acceptable. So I ended up switching to the QHY268M at 0.4"/pixel which worked.
I captures 59x120sec of RGB (OSC with qhy183c), 94x240sec LUM (qhy268m) and 36x240sec Ha for a total of 10hrs 38min.
I would like to add another 10hrs at least of Ha to really bring out the plums of glowing hydrogen (weather permitting :( ) to do this image justice.
Processed using APP, PI and Photoshop. Thx for checking it out and your C&C is welcomed.

Cheers
Alex

Great work Alex.

Marvelous is a very good description!

Super image Alex. I really like the coloration! The outer blues with the brown details in the core go very well with the bursting reds of Ha. Superb!
I can’t wait to see an additional 10 hours of Ha.

One of the prettiest M82 images that I’ve seen and the additional Ha will put it in the spectaclar category!

Hi Alex. A superb M82 image in HaLRGB light. Excellent contrast, very good framing, lots of vivid colors and details as well as the central fracture. Thanks for sharing this capture with us Alex and congratulations on receiving the much deserved TSS APOD Award today.
