Filter size and Sensor chip size

#1

Post by Astroguy3236 »

I have an ASI533Mc camera with a 1" sensor. I have attached a ZWO Filter Drawer to the camera. I typically use 2" filters with the filter drawer carriers, but I want to know if 1.25" filters would be a better choice. The filters I want to purchase are ridiculously expensive in 2" format, so I would like to opt for 1.25" on those expensive filters. My 1.25" filters have a clear aperture of 26mm and my sensor is 1" diagonal, so would I be better off with 1.25" less expensive filters vs. the expensive 2" versions?

Yes, welcome to the group.

As to the question, yes save some bucks. Even though the camera states a "1 inch chip", it is actually 16mm diagonal and 1.25 inch filters cover easily.

I uses 1.25 in filters with my ASI1600 and it is 22mm diagonal. Called a "4/3 inch chip", incidentally.
