Post by Makuser »

Hi all. A nice sunny but partly cloudy afternoon here and I got 4 shots of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch at 2:13 pm EST from my backyard. See photos below:

Here are the details:
On Thursday, March 9th at 2:13 pm EST, SpaceX launched the Falcon 9 OneWeb 17 mission from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station - SLC40. The first stage booster supporting this mission previously launched GPSIII Space Vehicle 04, GPSIII Space Vehicle 05,Inspiration 4, Ax-1, Nilesat 301, and seven Starlink missions. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
I hope that you enjoy the photos.

Wonderful photos Marshall!
Have you ever tried to record a video of the rocket flight? Can you hear the sound?
Please forgive my questions as I have never seen a rocket launch.
Thank you very much for sharing!

Hi Jim. Yes, I can hear the rumble from the launch. I was taking picture #4 when the sound reached me. I also heard the sonic "boom-boom" of the booster rocket descent re-entry as I was walking back to the house. I did have one photo of the actual booster separation from last December. And I did actually see the booster descent a couple of years ago when they landed the booster off shore in the Atlantic Ocean onto the drone ship (barge), but by the time I saw it I was too late to get a shot, as it was going low to my horizon and behind the trees. When the SpaceX Falcon 9 "Heavy" launches, it is so loud that you not only hear it but our house windows rattle.

Great photos again Marshall.

Not many people can claim to being in the flight path of a rocket :icon-smile:
