This was going on for years and has been settled for 2-3 now.
Synta (Skywatcher/ Celestron) settled with Orion out of court, Sunny/ JOC (Meade) went to court and lost.
Orion now owns Meade as part of the settlement.

Even telescope manufacturers get into highly competitive business practices resulting in litigation nowadays. It's not like the 70's and 80's where there was room in the marketplace for Meade and Celestron to actually grow into good sized companies. Meade even had an IPO (initial public offering) and was pulling in around $100 million in sales per year. But since then the market hasn't increased in size and Meade fell upon hard times, pushing manufacturing from Southern California to Mexico and then China. And actually there are even more vendors now and more specialization.

Thank you Helicon for the additional information on this subject.
I never really thought about Amateur Astronomy as an Industry being that big. However I should also add that being a ham radio operator there is a whole industrial for that hobby as well so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised !
