Creating master calibration photos using PixInsight

#1

Post by Kerry C. »

I hope I can get what is in my mind through my finger tips in an understandable manor as I type this question.
I have used master calibration frames, (flats, darks, dark flats) in the past as well as using new for each target.
I now have a new camera, ASI2600MCP, and want/need to build a compatible calibration library using the PixInsight WBBP2 process.
I took calibration frames at the different time parameters that I will generally use, and processed them using the said WBBP2 process creating master frames.... I'm getting close to my question.
I select the single individual calibrated master frame, flats or darks, and then open it up in PixInsight. When it opens up, there are three (3) individual images;
1- Master dark or flat rejection high
2- Master dark or flat rejection low
3- Master dark or flat calibration
Now my question...
When using the master calibrated frame for future projects, does PixInsight need and use all 3 reference images for processing, or can I just save the new calibration frame image?
Thanks, Kerry

Hi Kerry - You only save the calibration frame. The rejection high and low frames are only for your information. They aren't used in the actual calibration process.

Congratulations on your new camera!

Thanks Steve, I was guessing that might be the case, but I wanted to check with the experts…IE you! 😁

Thanks Kerry. I don't know about the "expert" part, but, I have learned some things along the way.
