Dust Issues

#1

Post by brenski »

This is DSS stack of C2022 E3 ZTF. I've cropped the image down to show the dust elements. I've left a tiny section of the comet in (which was centre frame) to help illustrate how imposing these "specs" are. Don't know if anyone has a solution to this, but my darks, flats and bias frames appear to have had no effect. Equipment: Zwo ASI183MC Pro (cooled), Evostar 72 ED DS Pro, S/Adv 2i.

Flats should take that out. How are you taking your flat frames?

On a side note, based on the size I would say it's on the lens of the telescope. I usually us a small hand held bulb blower on my scope lens before I go out to image. It also could be water spots if you have had any issues with dew.

I had a problem with dust actually on my sensor (ASI120MC). Very annoying and somewhat scary to clean. I did it and all is well, but it was still annoying!

i've tried various "flats"
some using the usual white t-shirt method using ADU calcs
i've even (desperately) also taken flats at the same exp/gain settings as the Lights too

nothing seems to work

dont have that problem with the 183MC Pro [Cooled]. Fortunately, there's protective glass over the sensor.

These are are filters or a flattener - something not very close to the chip.

Flats should definitely remove these. You might post a light, dark and a flat and dark for it. Flats should just work and these wouldn't be worth opening the imaging train up to clean assuming they work.
