SpaceX Falcon 9 launch Wednesday Morning

#1

Post by Makuser »

Hi all. A very cold but sunny morning here and I got 3 shots of the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch at 7:24 am EST from my backyard. See photos below:
Launch 1-18-2023A.JPG

Here are the details:
SpaceX launched Falcon 9's GPS III Space Vehicle 06 mission at 7:24am from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC 40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The first stage booster supporting this mission previously launched Crew-5. Following stage separation, the first stage will land on the A Shortfall of Gravitas droneship, which will be stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
I hope that you enjoy these photos.

Which news source do you use for up-to-date Launch Status of the Space-X launches??
I've got a 3-5 min walk down to the greenspace/retention pond before I have a decently low horizon to the ENE and Canaveral.
I used to use the KSC App, but the last few Space-X Launches have been "rounded down" to their "Planned Launch Hour" (instead of previous live coverage). So this AM the App listed Launch Status as "7:00:00 AM".
I walked out at 7:10 to check for the contrail of an early launch, but nothing visible. I must have started walking back by 7:18AM.

I need a New App...
ES AR152 / ES 80ED Apo / Orion 8in F/3.9 / C9.25-SCT / C6-SCT / C10-NGT / AT6RC / ST-80 / AstroView 90 / Meade 6000 APO 115mm
CGEM (w HyperTune and ADM bling) / 2x CG5-AGT / Forest of Tripod legs / Star Adventurer / Orion EQ-G
550D (Modded-G.Honis) / 60D / 400D / NexImage / NexGuide / Mini 50 SSAG / ST-8300C / ASI120MM-S / ASI1600MM-Cool
Dark Skies in SW CO when I can get there, and badly light polluted backyard when I can't... (Currently Self-Exiled to Muggy Central Florida...)

Hi Stephen and seigell. Thank you both for your nice comments. I went out with the temperature of 50 degrees and was afraid that my camera lens would dew up before I was done imaging. I used to use the Space.com for launch schedules but they include everything so I went looking for a more local source. A search for "space launches" listed several but the one that caught my eye was Space Coast Launch Schedule, here at:
https://spacecoastlaunches.com/launch-schedule/
I have been using this now for my local launch data for the last 5 months and now it is also being used by local radio station WMMB (Melbourne, FL). Sorry to say that I didn't image last Sunday's beautiful early evening launch, as we didn't quite get back home from church for the installation of our new pastor in time to take any pictures. I hope the above link helps seigell and the very best of regards.

The App version of this site is one of the Apps which disappoints me regularly - while great graphics and a decent list of "Upcoming Launches", it fails to provide Launch / Countdown Status details (Holds, Reschedules, etc).
As an example, this App showed the OP's launch at 7:15AM, even after the launch actually occurred at 7:18AM.
