A couple of tight doubles in Perseus

These were observed using my 6" f/8 apo, continuing my current pursuit of most of the doubles observable by me in Perseus. I have been going at this project over the whole northern sky for a few years now.

November 20, 2022: I observed STF 314 AB-C m 6.95, 7.26, sep 1.6" at PA 315 deg. I first saw it double at 152x, using my 8mm TV Radian eyepiece, and easily saw it completely split at 203x, with my 6mm Radian. This is a long period binary, with a period of about 1,185 years. Of course, I did not see the AB pair, separation about 0.24", period about 86 years, now close to its widest.

November 22, 2022: I observed HU 544, AKA SAO 23907, m 6.7, 8.2, sep 1.6" at PA 102 deg. I used a 5mm Delite eyepiece for 243x to split this little unequal gem. It's a binary, presently near its projected widest point, and still slowly widening. The period is estimated at 473 years. Grade 5 orbit, fair amount of uncertainty.

I don't know if I will finish Perseus this season. It depends on weather and favorable temperatures. I have about 60 more doubles to attempt in Perseus.

Wonderful split of two tight doubles in Perseus, John!

I personally am still working on completing my list of doubles observable through a 60mm scope, some of which will require a larger aperture because of my Bortle 9 skies. Looking forward to trying out tighter doubles with my larger scopes.
