Psyche Asteroid Mission

#1

Post by Unitron48 »

The emphasis on missions to the various asteroids continues with this mission: https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/psyc ... index.html

"The Psyche mission is a journey to a unique metal asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. What makes the asteroid Psyche unique is that it appears to be the exposed nickel-iron core of an early planet, one of the building blocks of our solar system."

"Earlier this year, Psyche missed its planned 2022 launch period as a result of mission development problems, leading to an internal review of whether the mission would be able to overcome these issues to successfully launch in 2023. NASA announced Friday the agency decided its Psyche mission will go forward, targeting a launch period opening on Oct. 10, 2023."

Could be a very significant mission.

Also the type of heavy solid body that could survive entering the atmosphere and do the most damage if it were in an Earth crossing orbit. Worth the trip.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.
