Mount Stabilization with three Bungie cords

#1

Post by planecrazzzy »

.
I haven't needed this kind of stabilization yet... I'm still mainly Visual...and preparing for AP.
.
I've thought about some of the things they do to add stabilization to mounts...
.
This is mine... Simple - 3 - 41 inch bungie cords ( The GOOD Truckers type )
.
They just hook on the bottom of the mount... go square across the other leg... no funny angles,
Then hook onto the next lower leg... Do this with each bungie and it comes out like a Elec Tower Support.
.
Best part is... it doesn't take room... and it has other uses , and Cheap... and simple
Plus your feet have room .
.
I'll bet someone somewhere is already doing this... it just looks too obvious
.
Gotta Fly...

Interesting, I've never seen that before. Looks like a very doable upgrade, but does it work?

I have been using bungie cords to stabilize the arm of ES Twilight 1 mount. It does cut vibrations settling time considerably.

It "Loads" it....When they are on , the strength combined is stiffening... (Geodetic)
.
and like mentioned... deadening...

I have the same mount and tripod and do AP fine.
The accessory tray braces that tripod for great rigidity such that I can attempt to shake it and not see any image jiggle. Have to say it does respond to a tripod foot being kicked and that depends on the ground surface.
Probably a nice tweak on the cheaper shakier mounts but a little over the top for the AVX tripod.
The AVX tripod is as solid as the Pyramid of Giza.
Scopes: 200mm f6 DOB:CR 6 150 mm f 7.5 refractor, SW ED 80 mm f 7.5. 2 X 80 mm f7.5 guides.

I have never had to do that with the Celestron tripod before or any tripod actually.
A tripod can usually take 2.5-3x what the mount is capable of holding.

Since the stainless tubing on the Celestron tripod legs is only 1/32" I would not put to much side stress on them.

A agree. That tripod is very sturdy. Like Goldstar said @goldstar , very strong!

The tripod legs are thin and will distort under lateral pressure.

There is no pressure to speak of... ( The sky is not falling... the tape is NOT red , There is NO spoon )
.
OK... Why do people make those Braces to bolt to the lower part of the tri pods ? ( I guess I'll hunt a video )
.
For those who do... I'd try the bungie cords instead
.
I just measured it.... each 41 inch bungie is STRETCHED to 51 inches...

10 inches of pull on a 41 inch isn't much.
.
Yes... I haven't needed it... But if I do ( Wind? ) , this is simple...
.
Gotta Fly...
.
This guy ain't the first one I've seen stabilizing the tripod with the lower contraption...
.
At 21:34 of the video he is starting to bolt it on...
.
I was up ALL night , then it dawned on me...
