StarSense Autoalign / AVX

.
After finding a place to mount the StarSense Camera , it was time to test it out.
I used my 6" Newtonian.
I collimated it , but never aliened the finder scope... Just eyeball.
.
So far it works with my phone. I want it to work with my laptop
I had to stop , water dripping , but not raining.

Even though I messed up a few times.
I got it to alien , then go to Belugues ? Beetle Juice
.
It was center of the finder scope , But with a 32mm , It wasn't focusing... Thought it was moister , found later it wasn't...Probably focal length , I'm gonna look at it today.
.
I left the mount in place...Put the mini tent over it, brought the scope inside.
.
Gotta Fly...
.
PS The picture with the laptop...Hmmm the laptop wasn't used , just the phone

.
The cord they gave with the starsense was straight... well , kinked from shipping... a ratz nest.
.
The one that came with the AVX was coiled and springy
.
I'm afraid the ratz nest is gonna catch on something.
.
After looking at my new straight cord... and the AVX coiled cord , I noticed they are the exact same material.
.
So heating up the cord should work.
.
It did , after I got it up to about 150F.

It cooled a little and I stuck it in the freezer, I want it cold throughout.
.
IF... This wasn't enough, I'll put it on a smaller Dia. Tube , and heat it a little hotter.
.
Gotta Fly...
.
PS Maybe I should have put this in DIY ?

Sort of... The plane I have been working on is difficult...
My Shop is 50ft away at the cabin... My step-daughter and her husband have
been there for awhile til they build or buy.
I have odd hours ( Retired ) so I don't want to disturb them , they work .
So here I am... Learn'n Astro nomity
.
Gotta Fly...
.
PS I'm going to do it again... Smaller Dia tube , HOT water , Boiling 212F
and the freezer again...
I was up ALL night , then it dawned on me...

So,
This thing is pretty amazing. I had a place to keep a level on the tripod leg....don't need a level.
Don't need a clear shot at Polaris , Don't need to worry about the different tracking speeds...Are there 3 ?
It was about $150 bucks more than a star shooter, but a star shooter needs a hollow finder scope.
.
This starsense gets me set up fast...
The only thing missing at this point is the camera and laptop photo programs
.
So tonight , after alignment , I went to Beiuse (?) again... Then shot down to Rigel...Still good
I zoomed in on the phone app.... for the direction of the things I can't see , The Nebula...
That was what I told that Dog to Hunt...Bang... I'm there... NOT close magnification right now,
still testing things, but I could see the faint fuzzy...
.
I told it to go to Mars... Well , I clicked on Mars and hit go to.
Nailed it... I left it on Mars... I'd come back every 5 mins or so... Same spot... after about 30 min
This holds it very good
Now I'm Beginning.
.
Yea... I'm a Beginner........ Finally.
.
Some might say I'm just the Monkey pushing the button.
but I had to FIND the button.
I'll be re ordering the Refractor , Everything is ready for it.
Trying to find a sale...Black Friday is coming...I don't shop it. But it might trigger a sale?
.
Oh , The Chase... This thing will also help me get more out of my 10" DOB
As in follow the leader.
I'll bet with a digital level and a compass I could get pretty close to the AVX target
Without aliening...Or I could finally learn to use the 10" Go to controller.
At least I could glance at the AVX to see if I was close.

.
the little tent works also , better than out in the open.
I'll put stuff away later.
I was up ALL night , then it dawned on me...

.
Here's a picture after the thing was used for the night.
.
The cord stayed nicely tucked away.
.
Gotta Fly...
.
PS You'd be surprised how much sky is seen from this spot.
I bought Chad a Huge Mirror , he could see the Deck and lake from his bed.
He would have been able to see the scope here.

.
After resetting to default, I could better align it this time with more magnification. Centering the target better before taking off to deeper space.
.
It was going good... going to it's targets and tracking them.

But then something was "off"... I went back to lower power... hmm, still off.

It's only 38F out there... Not bad , but I duck inside here and there .

So I don't really know if the telescope "Bumped" or if it was when I messed with a calibrate button when I shouldn't have.
.
I was almost a beginner...... I hit default again... I'm ready to start it again.
.
I guess if I was wearing more than my pajamas I'd be a little warmer... Ok Pj's and a Hoodie

On the "Other side" of Winter , this is warm.
.
Gotta Fly...
.
I was up ALL night , then it dawned on me...

Hi PC,

Sounds like you are doing well, despite the usual troublesome tidbits. All normal growing pains.
Forgive me if I missed it, but did I see that you decided against the Orion Magnificent Mini Autoguider?
