According to Farpoint they are clearing out older stock of the "classic" filters, and will only sell Gen 3 filters in the future. They also clarify that "the Econoline, the Classic, and the Gen3 O-III filters are distinctly different products made by using distinctly different procedures." I notice that that people were reporting the 1.25" Classic O-III was on sale as far back as 2019, so looks like this had been going on for a while.

If they were selling off the 2 inch I might bite, as I only use the larger ones by screwing them into either a 2 inch EP or the 2 to 1.25 reducer for my 1.25 EPs. I still have an old Orion O-III, so it is sufficient for my limited amount of filter usage.

Classic is the previous generation (gen 2?) which has been sold as their flagship OIII filter for years before they come out with gen 3. I have/had a few and even collected spectra from them on my spectrophotometer in the lab. :) They are premium quality filters.

Your old OIII is likely of the similar high quality. I don't believe you need to upgrade it, Alan.

Good, I can spend my money on something else!

And yes, I believe the "Classic" is their Gen 2 filters. The "Econoline" version was produced to counter the proliferation of cheaper O-III filters on the market. My understanding is that they do outperform the cheaper O-III filters out there, but are not up to the Classic or Gen 3 in performance. Then again, the Econolines do have a broader passband. Actually I would take my DGM NPB over the majority of O-III filters out there. Though billed more as a UHC type, even with its passband of 24nm it does quite well on PNe and SNR objects. I would not expect it to keep up with higher end O-IIIs however, that have tighter passbands. But I find the NPB an excellent overall filter if one wishes to own only one. I bought the factory second from DGM for a little extra savings with no reduction in performance.

Ok, I have to ask...it's been a week and I've heard nothing from Farpoint beyond the order confirmation...It's not a big deal because my card hasn't been charged yet...I'm just curious if this is normal. I did send an email to them today asking about approximate shipping time...

Their shipping is not the fastest. Mine took a few days and they are pretty close to where I live. But, by all means contact them and ask for ETA/tracking info.
