M31 The Andromeda Galaxy For 2022

#1

Post by Juno16 »

In my 4 years of imaging, I have imaged this target at four different times. Starting with my Nikon D3300 (non-modded), then an Ha modified Nikon D-5300 and last year with my ASI 533 MC-P.

I really liked last years image, but it was plagued by horrible star chromatic aberration on the bright stars due to a defective main objective on my Sharpstar 61 APO refractor.
Sharpstar made it right and sent me a new main objective.

Captured on 9/23/22 and 9/24/22.

793 light frames at 60 seconds with a ZWO uv/ir cut filter (a bit over 13 hours integration).
ASI 533 MC-Pro at 0C and at unity gain
Sharpstar 61 EDPHII with 0.8 FR/FF (275mm)
Skywatcher HEQ5Pro (rowan belt modified)

Captured with N.I.N.A., guided by PHD2 using GreenSwampServer
Processed in Pixinsight

Hope that you like it!

That is some fabulous detail, Jim! Love the dust lanes and the well-controlled core along with the extended halo. Looks like you really had a great stretch of weather at the end of September.

Hi Bob!

I was so fortunate to get 7 clear nights in the last two weeks of September. I have never had such nice skies in such a short period of time! Especially considering that I haven’t imaged since May because of poor skies.

I even got out a night last week just to test guiding after some worm gear adjustments. Went on to catch about 4 hours on the Cocoon and a couple of hours on M33. Not enough data to do anything with in my skies, but I’ll save it for future sessions.

Thank you for the nice comments!

Glad that I got better quality data considering last year’s issues. Actually, the data was nice enough to make processing a breeze. That does always happen!

Thanks again Bob for your nice comments!

I’m happy that I did, but I wasn’t really excited about imagining M31again.
I have a very limited sky view from my backyard and didn’t have many options. Also, I wanted to shoot a broadband target since the moon wasn’t a factor.

I think that it’s my best go of m31 so far and I’m happy with the results. Glad that I captured the new data.

By the way, I just wanted to say that I passed on drizzle this time. I just didn’t feel like putting in the extra time.
To me the stars look nice unless you drill deep.

Thanks Steve!

I would be very happy with that result. Keep up the good work.

Going to be hard to improve on that image, Jim. You can probably just sit back now and say: I finally nailed Andromeda.

Thank you David!
I know that this sounds kind of odd, but this dataset was a joy to process (not work like some are).
Seemed like every PI process that I tried gave the outcome that I was hoping for. How often does that happen!!!
Much appreciated sir!

Holy crap Jim, that is just stunning!! Pardon the expression, but it was the first thing I said aloud when I saw that. I'm no expert at all on DSO imaging, but that is really the best Andromeda image I've seen. Colour, detail, sharpness; you've got it all going on there. Good for you, well done!

My best to you all :D

Wow, thanks a bunch JT!

I haven't had much success having astro images printed. However, I did recently get a SpyderX and calibrated my pc monitor. Maybe I will try it again.

That's a real beauty Jim, one of the nicest I've seen. Excellent details in the dust lanes as well as beautiful blue highlights in the outer regions. Excellent data and processing. Your time on target really paid off!!! Really like this one.
