Here is our Purple Cattleya Orchid flower this year. It was a few weeks behind in blossoming from last year. English orchid collector William Cattleya gave the Cattleya its name. The orchid has no specific symbolic meaning, but is associated with fertility and virility.

I hope that all of you enjoy it.

A female Eurasian Kingfisher after a failed attempt to catch a fish. Photographed at an artificial pond baited with fish, with the camera triggered by remote control from a hide nearby. She and her mate have raised two broods this year and seem to be working on a third. At one time they had territorial disputes but they decided it was a waste of time and decided to get married instead.

Hi all. Here is the blossom from our Gloriosa Lily (also called Flame Lily) this year. They are native to tropical regions, mostly southern Africa, Asian, and parts of northern Australia. Like our purple orchid, it too was a couple of weeks behind last year in blossoming. I hope that you enjoy it.

Had a wander around Anderwood Inclosure, Burley this morning.

It had an Autumnal feel to the start of the day - cooler and damp, but the sun was shining.

Photos never really convey the mood of the Forest. However, it was beautifully quiet apart from the crunch of the gravel footpath beneath my walking shoes, the rustle of the wind through the trees and bushes and birdsong all around me.

Here are a few images I would like to share with you.

It is always a delight when I encounter my pony friends on a walk, so here they are...

Southern Ants' nests are a common sight here. This one, situated about twenty feet from the main footpath measures about 6 feet high by 6 feet wide...

Blackensford Brook, normally fast-flowing has been reduced to a trickle...

Hi Vanessa. I always enjoy the photographs that you and Sophia take in the countryside. Between 1975 and 1985, we lived out in the country in Northeast Illinois. It was in Momence, IL, about 90 miles north of where my good friend John Donne (Mark) lives. We lived along the Kankakee River which you can see below. The line points to our house and the stables in back:
K3 River 2.jpg

Here is an autumn photo pointing away from our house to the end of the 8 acres and you can see the many oak trees and leaves:
Autumn in Momence2.png

And in the fall, the tasty Hen's Nest (Grifola frondosa) mushrooms used to grow at the base of the oak trees.
Above I mentioned the stables. On our property was the N. L. Litchfield stables built in 1932. We put up fences and a paddock for the horses that we had at that time:
Stables 1.png
Stables 2.png

Sheri and I both miss the open country but we sure don't miss all of that snow that you see in the pictures. Thanks for sharing your excellent pictures from the Anderwood Inclosure, Burley Vanessa and I hope that you and Sophia enjoy our pictures too.

I think you know I will enjoy your photos Marshall - they contain horses after all

Snow is a rarity here, so in some ways you were lucky to get some. I know you said you don't miss it, but I think in moderation it has a certain kind of beauty.

We are very fortunate to be living inside a National Park, a privilege we never take for granted. Being able to step outside of our house straight into nature is fantastic.

I am pleased you like the photos I post of our lovely walks.

Thank you for sharing yours.

Had to say goodbye to the old pickup I've driven for the last ten years a few weekends ago. So now I won't have it anymore to haul my stuff around in. So the wife and I went vehicle shopping. I had already told her some time ago, this time when I buy a vehicle, I'm not buying this one for need or necessity. I'm getting something I want. She thinks I'm having a midlife crisis.

The good news:

Whatever I'm hauling now, I'm going to get there faster.

Like any new toy, the first thing you do is take it out and takes some pictures of it:
