After further review, comparing it to a star chart, I confirmed that this is Neptune. The “star” by the yellow lines.

I tried getting it with my normal planetary camera, but it was too dim, so I had to use my phone.

Well, at least I got a picture of it.

Hi Jared. A very nice image of Neptune, especially using your phone camera. Neptune is the only planet that keeps evading me, so I really enjoyed your capture. Thanks for sharing this with us on here Jared and keep up the good work.

Good job capturing elusive Neptune!

I finally saw Neptune (for sure) last weekend with my 102 mm, f/7 refractor. It wasn’t easy in my city lights but I star hopped to it and compared what I saw to the star patterns in Stellarium. To me it was just a pale blue star. It’s only about 40 minutes ahead of Jupiter on the ecliptic right now so Jupiter makes a good starting point.

That's a great image for a phone! After getting a really nice image of Uranus a year ago I tried for Neptune with my planetary camera. Like you said it was was too dim. But I was able to get a decent image after some trial and error - so the moral of my story is to keep trying!

Here is the link to that Neptune image a year ago if you are interested.
