Gear opinions needed

Post by werther »

Hi,

I’m a total beginner.
I’m interested in astrophotography and recently found myself reading more and more about it.
I plan to buy some gear, but I only have a rough idea about what’s needed.
I‘ve found someone who’s selling a tube with all its parts already assembled but I want an advised opinion for this build.
I’ll post the links for the individual parts one by one:

He’s asking roughly 2050 Euro for the entire list. Too much, good price, useless parts... ? Any problems down the road with any of the parts?
If you’ll be so kind to leave your own opinion, I’d appreciate it.

Thank you!

p.s: I don’t know if this post it’s where it should be, and I apologize for any mistake.

The question is what you want. The most important ones are the first two links, a small doublet Apo and a small Alt/Az mount (the latter not suitable for AP). Personally, I would move on and get a heavier beginner/intermediate equatorial mount such as an AVX or better HEQ5 and a larger scope, for instance a 102 mm Apo. For the money listed you can do much better I think.

I'd agree with @SkyHiker it really depends on what sort of imaging you want to do, dso/planetary?widefield Skyscapes?

As Gordon said, the AZ-GTI is not the best choice and you'd be better putting the money to a HEQ 5 and pair it with a slightly larger scope.

There is a fair bit of stuff in that list that is unlikely to get much, if any, use out of. But on the other hand its a lot of gear (too much?) for only €2k - you'd want to be pretty confident about the seller before handing over the cash.
Scope: Skywatcher Evostar 80ED (SW 0.85 FR/FF) on a SW NEQ6Pro
Guiding; SW Evoguide 50ED, ASI 120mm mini
Meade 8" LX200 GPS on wedge (Guided with a cheapo 50mm guidescope and a ZWO ASI 120mm mini)
Sharpstar 61EDPH II (with dedicated 0.8 reducer) with wiliam Optics 32mm uniguide
Camera: ASI2600MC pro. QHY 163M with ZWO 7nm NB filters, Canon EOS700D astro mod
Secondary mount: Skywatcher StarAdventurer

I agree with both of the above, to me it looks as if someone has bought a lot of gear, but if he describes it as an astrophotograpy set up it is less than ideal in the most important choices. The scope is the best item - but as said, it depends very much on what you want to explore in AP.

The camera is most often used as a mono version for guide scopes - it will work as a planetary camera - but there are better choices in the ZWO and other ranges for that work. I would chat with some of us on the forum and think about what it is you wish to focus on. Once you know that, it is easier to advise, as there is no single scope/camara/mount setup that will act as an 'universal' Astrophotography setup...

Take your time and you will get the best setup for yourself.
Cheers,

Tony.
