Auroras last night?

#1

Post by Jnicholes »

According to spaceweather.com, there was a stream of solar wind that hit earth last night, (08/07/2022,) causing a G2 geomagnetic storm. I went out to see if I could spot auroras.

I couldnt see anything due to the moon behind me and the suns glare below the horizon. I got some pictures of Polaris and Dubhe, hoping my phone could see the possible auroras. I didnt see anything this way either.

I went home disappointed.

Today, 08/08/2022, I processed my photos, and saw something interesting.

One question. Is that green glow an aurora?

It looks like you were capturing a faint trace of the auroras.

Faint green...not many other things it could be.

Nope, that pic was taken from the desert. But I have seeing green in sunsets from different locations. It appears in the transition zone between the yellow from sunset and blue sky above.
