Where To Buy a Focuser?

#1

Post by bigfish »

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to fill this big hole in my life with a new focuser. Can anyone recommend a place to buy a JMI focuser or recommend another brand that can handle a ZWO EAF? I have been email and calling Farpoint for weeks and can't get a hold of them or when I do It's a one line unhelpful answer with no follow up. Sad customer service. :sigh:

With JMI closing down, I suspect your best bet now is to look at something like the Feathertouch focusers (Farpoint advertise the Event Horizon focusers, which seem to be a similar price to Feathertouch anyway). Have you tried Astronomics? I understand they have quite good customer service. Highpoint Scientific sell both ZWO and Feathertouch too...

Another option is Moonlight focusers (https://focuser.com/index.php), or if your budget is more limited, what about GSO? See: https://agenaastro.com/parts-accessorie ... users.html Agena are in California I see, so they might be easier to track down for you than Farpoint.

Good luck!

Eyepieces: way too many (is that possible?), but I do like my TV 32mm plossl, 13mm Nagler T6, 27mm Panoptic and 3-6mm Nagler zoom, plus Fujiyama 18mm and 25mm orthos and Tak 7.5mm LE

Thank you for your reply.
I went ahead and bought a Feather Touch Rotatable 2". The focuser looks really nice and their website is easy to use. I hope their customer service is as easy to work with too.

Have you ever mounted a ZWO EAF on one before?
I'm kind of taking my chances buying one because I don't know what the bottom looks like.
There is only one picture on the internet and it doesn't show the bottom.

I've mounted a Pegasus Astro Universal Motor Focus V2 to the FeatherTouch focuser on my StellarVue SV70T. Pretty straightforward with the universal bracket they provided. Not sure what the bracket looks like on the ZWO EAF but I'm guessing they are designed to be mounted on several different styles of focusers so it shouldn't be too much trouble for you.

I cannot help there, I do not do voodoo :)
Did you give Starlight a phone call? They are usually very helpful.

I second that. I replaced the stock GSO LF focuser on my Orion 8" Newt with a FeatherTouch. It was a perfect fit. I love it. There is almost no slippage even with a 4 lb camera load on it.

I am super interested in knowing how long the draw tube is on you FT focuser? And did you use the FT adapter ring or some other way?
I ordered the 2.5" draw tube travel, I hope it works.

I'd have to go out and measure it. I think it was a 1" or maybe 1.5" draw tube.

That adapter doesn't look familiar.
