A small window for some Solar

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

Hey everyone, hope all is well :D

I'm kinda tired, and 3:30 AM comes early tomorrow. I don't really have to get up that early, but my job is what I make it; I can start when I want. Beat the traffic, drive the distance, and beat the traffic home. I have that luxury :D

It was humid this morning, and I drove home to sporadic downpours. When I got in at 1PM, it was so soupy outside. Even the cat didn't come out; I don't blame her! I did a few things on here, and even some housework....!!

The girls were both home when I got in, and at just before 4PM my better half informed me it was clear out. She knows me so well... ;)

In just under 10 minutes I had my C80-HD, EOS 550D, Baader 3.8 OD film, SC and UV/IR filters set to go. I took my old (1996) CG4 mount out, set it up and loaded the scope with all its attachments onto it.
Japanese and German optics are such a good combo...

The wind was whipping the tree branches around, but the skies were clear during all that for about 15 minutes. I've been taking solar pics with all this at ISO 800 and 1/1250th sec exp, and today I thought to try that, and as well at 1/100th sec.

Of course, looking at it on the camera viewfinder, it really doesn't look too promising.... So bright and green! But trust me, it all works out well in the end.

I was really happy with the stack at 1/1000th. I took 40 shots; this is the best 50% (20) aligned with PIPP and stacked with AS3. I tried some sharpening with PS and PSP9, not impressed with it. I like the way it came out of AS3 with 15% RAW blended in.
No processing at all.

If anyone wants to play with the stack or even the output TIFF file, let me know; I'll send you a link :D

Have a good day/night all!

Howdy Mark. I am always glad to see your solar images and you have a nice variety here. Excellent active region details and there is that new AR3057 on the left side of your capture. Thanks for sharing these with us Mark and the very best of regards.
