my experience with Collimation

#1

Post by man1 »

Hey,

I tried numerous tools for collimating my xt10i and I never liked the fact, when re-checking with another
tool that things were always a bit off. Coming from a big focuser tube and reducing it always added the extra
unpredictable play to the side.
I wanted a collimator that fits the full size of my focuser tube. Like every body else looking around on
the Internet trying to get ideas. I did find something commercially available, and it looked very simple
to make on my lathe. I made it with a very tight tolerance, a true suction fit.
It works fantastic, checking with a star alignment... can't get it any better!

I had rebuilt my focuser from scratch no more slipping even went as far as doing an alignment of the
focuser (base) to the main tube and my home made collimator did a very accurate job.

Manne

I add some pictures and hope they display this time reduced to 600 x ~400

no idea why the pictures don't display... it seems to work when I put them in the gallery

I think I found the problem... seems to be because I copied from a USB stick rather from the internal SSD drive.
