July 2nd Sun

Hey everyone, hope you're good as always :D

Yesterday I was all alone except for the cat and goldfish. Sarah was out visiting her grandmother (my wife's mum) since Friday; Sarah and her went and played golf Saturday morning. Except for mini-put, this was the first time she's played golf, and she actually quite enjoyed it. They did 18 holes, impressive for her first time out and for Granny too, she's 81.

My wife Jackie was visiting one of her friends; she left at 9AM to see her. And here's me, all by myself... Actually, not quite; there is the cat and goldfish; I think the cat is wondering where most of the humans have gone

I did get a few things done that I've been meaning to for some time. No offence to the girls, but sometimes some "me" time is wholesome ;)

Sasha was very clingy the whole day, and when I cooked myself a steak on the BBQ she sat on me though I know she doesn't like the smoke from it. I kept getting this look like, make it stop!!

It was a nice clear day, no humidity for a change. Even though the Sun is kind of quiet (no large spots) I took out my WO 61mm with Baader 3.8 solar film and camera with a Baader Solar Continuum and UV/IR cut filters at just after 7PM. All this is on my mount I made from the tripod from an old Celestron SLT 102 and some plumbing pipe. The whole thing weighs in at just under 8lbs with the camera, very solid and so grab and go.

The Sun was low in the west at 7PM; doing this earlier would have been better. However, I did have the needy feline... AR3046 is on the upper left, AR3047 is in the lower middle, and AR3040 is rotating off the right side of the Sun at the limb. Planets are to scale.

I have to say, I find the SC filter good in bringing out the faculae, and the UV/IR filter enhances that for sure. I have four Baader filters; the Semi-Apo, Clearglass, SC and UV/IR. The Solar Continuum is the only one that doesn't have threads on the front of it. Makes it easy when you're wondering which should be the first filter in the chain!

Clear skies all, and all the best,
Mark

Hi Mark. I almost missed this thread. A very nice solar image with AR3046 and AR3047 showing up well. I also enjoy the size comparison that you include too. Thanks for sharing this capture with us on here Mark and I hope that you and Sasha had a great weekend.
