Got a new 6 inch this morning.

#1

Post by Don Quixote »

My buddy Henry and I talk on the phone just about every day. He has been a benefactor in the past. He claims I lead him down the primrose path and because of this he now has a large collection of telescopes and AP kit.

We like to observe together. Usually he is imaging and I am doing visual. He shows me his views and I show him mine. We always have good times.

Today he told me he was going to purchase an ES127 Essential. He will pull the trigger on this later today.

We got to chatting and he decided to drive out to my place with his ES152 f6.5 which I have coveted for some time. We came to an amicable agreement to the trade, and voila !

I am now the proud owner of this fine telescope.
I am Sooo excited !

Sorry about all the other junk in the image.
Cheers !

I took the Big gun out last night. I have named him "Henry" in honor of my friend. I had a few minutes before the sky shut completely.

Oooh Boy !

I am going to have my work cut out for me identifying all the new faint fuzzies I will see.

I spent about 15 minutes in IC4665 just because it was available through a small opening in my forest canopy. I have never seen so many background stars in this cluster before. There were so many revealed as to slightly diminish the brilliance of this loose open cluster.

I am eagerly awaiting another trip to the Penfield dark site with Henry.

Very nice Mark, glad you were able to get the new telescope.
A 150mm will pull in a good amount of light and keep you observing new objects for quite some time :)

Currently I have the TAL 100mm f/10 and the Frankencanon 150mm f/8 set up and if the hourly forecast holds I will be doing some observing,
if the satellite forecast holds I will be bringing them back inside

My wife was kidding with me this morning about my little family while I told her about the deal I made with Henry for this trade, and my wonderful views last night.

I just got off the telephone with Henry.

We make a perfect storm when we are out together. Henry on AP while I am cruising the visual ocean of wonder overhead.

We are dreaming of a trip out west...high desert. We shall see. :-)

Well JT this was a spontaneous trade.
I was home caring for my mother and Henry called to chat about his planned acquisition of another new telescope he has been looking at.

He decided to drive out to see me. When he got here and we meandered around to trading I suggested I trade him in silver bullion which I have amassed over the years.
We settled on 22 ounces at current spot price.
I had also just completed a nice mens ring with some appropriate script on the inside of the band. I asked if he would like to have it also. No hesitation. He told me he would have traded for the ring. I said, "Well then. Lets have that bag of silver back." He got a big grin. We did not alter our original bargain, but I was very gratified by his sentiment.

So long story short...23 oz of silver bullion. :-)
Picture of ring attached.

At the spot price that seems like quite the bargain. BUT you went and spent some of you "Post-Apocalyptic" spending money. It should have higher utility than just the spot price!
