My Eagle Nebula update

#1

Post by jazzin »

One thing I always do with my data once I get it is I reprocess it to see if I can come up with a better result. The eagle nebula is probably the most iconic object in the night sky bc of the 1995 Hubble pic and ever since I learn how to do this I always wanted to get a HaRGB pic of it to display on my wall. I intended to get the image last year and collected 3 hours of Ha data but never got the chance to collect the RGB data to finish it. Well in May of this year I did get the RGB data and have been trying to enhance the image in PixInsight using masks and common techniques which are in my workflow but don't always use all the time. It may not be the best eagle nebula pic I ever take but thought it was plenty good enough to get printed and hang on my wall.

That's a beauty! The FOV is perfect to make the nebula and surrounding nebulosity look like a massive eagle with the wings spread out. Well done! Very impressive image. Enjoy it on your wall!!!!

Would you expect good results printing that on gloss paper or are you considering metal?

Definitely worth of a wall! I especially like the detail in the pillars, set against the full background of the associated nebulosity.

That's that part of the image I was trying to enhance. When I originally shared the image here, I was thinking this is a wall worthy pic but more can be done to showcase the Pillars. I quit right there bc I didn't want to overprocess it.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Excellent work bringing out the detail of the pillars without over-cooking it!
