Shot this target May 3, 2022. ASI533MC P in a SW 8" Quattro with a l-eHance filter. Due to issues I only stacked 7 of the 9 300 second frames. Gain 101, Offset 50. WBPP in PixInSight and finished in Luminar AI.

LOL I'll try any target under Mag 18.5. But I live a solitary life out in Bortle 2 verging on Bortle 1 Sky. June sucks for AP here, on the 21st of June it hardly gets dark, on December 21 it is only light for a while. and I am only at 52N.

I doubt I'd try dim, way out there targets IF I lived in a Light polluted city..... But ya never know IF you don't stretch your legs!

Very nice image Brent. I have to say I've never heard it called the "Camel's Eye" because Camelopardalis represents a giraffe not a camel. I have seen it called both the "Oyster" and "Blue Oyster". Regardless it is a curious object.

I see I last observed this fairly bright planetary back in October of 2016 from our dark site with the 12 inch dob. Here are my notes:

NGC 1501 (Camelopardalis, planetary nebula, mag=11.5, size=56.0” x 48.0”): Not quite 1.5° south of the open cluster NGC 1502 I easily swept up this fine planetary. I found it a bright and large grayish ball at 84x with no filter. Using 138x with an O-III filter, the planetary became very bright and it seemed to be mottled with uneven illumination. Pushing up to 172x and 227x using the O-III the sense of mottling across its dimensions seemed more pronounced and it was exceedingly bright overall. I never did spot the mag 14.5 Wolf-Rayet central star. At times I felt there may have been a very subtle bluish tint, but was never certain of this. It is quite a fine planetary indeed!

Marshall, I called what I did as a result of believing the Title line on Stellarium. This is why I always use the standard, recognized descritor when I post an image.

I don't use the ASI533MC P often, especially with the Quattro. Is is a good camera, but suffers IF you introduce too much light. ANother thing with this combo is the SW Quattro leaks stary un-wanted light in around the focuser and Primary mirror. I usually use it followinng a new Moon....
