Hello from WeAtherford, Texas

#1

Post by Johnny Carter »

Just found this site, I used to be a member of Astronomy Forum a few years ago, and was new to astronomy then. My wife Emma and I are avid nature photographers and love camping. A few years ago we bought a 10” Dob and really enjoyed it, unfortunately we both had some health issues and dropped out of the picture, the dob too heavy for either of us. The itch is still there, so we just ordered an Orion Starseeker IV 150mm MAK-CASS, it is supposed to ship in about a week. Looks like a real nice site, glad we found you. We look forward to learning and seeing new things. And learn we will need to do, been so long all I remember is the sky is up …. Most of the time.
I’ve learned a lot since I knew it all.
150mm Orion Mak-Cass, Orion StarSeeker IV GoTo mount, Telrad.
Orion 10 & 23mm (set 1.25), Explore Scientific 9 & 18mm, 2x GSO Barlow, just purchased 2” Orion twist diagonal, GSO 32mm plossl and Agena 8-24 zoom.

Welcome to the forum Johnny I find that a 8 or 10 inch dobs is easier to move around than my 150 mak which is on an EQ5 mount , I made a base on lockable wheels for the dobs and just roll it out of my garage and its ready , however if that is not an option then yes the 10 inch is quite heavy

Thanx all, and Richard, like the idea but not practical for us, no garage or place to wheel it really, but we also travel, we have a few acres north oh Uvalde and want to bring it there when we visit. We also have a teenage grandson that has shown interest, and I think the dob will go to him, he just doesn’t know it yet.
Wave Catcher we just might have to meet out somewhere sometime. Have a great day folks.
