Spotted sun

There are a couple of really easy-to-see sunspots on the sun right now (that is, as I type this). Just went outside and looked at them with my handheld solar binoculars and I could see them pretty easily. Of course, there's always the SDO's superior view available:

The ST80 makes the perfect solar scope, equipped with a Herschel wedge or simple filter.
Easy to get outside with, and the best part, a wide field to make finding the Sun easy

Yessiree on that. Errands ran long so clouds were rolling in and no go. Forecst tomorrow looks favorable though.

Hi AG. Yes, the sun has been very active the last couple of weeks. Here is a screenshot of today's report from Raben Systems:

Encouraged by your post I may get out the 120ST or XLT 150R refractor with glass white light solar filter tomorrow after the clouds clear up here. Thanks for your report AG and keep looking up.

Hi AG and all. Well, it took a few days but I did what I said I was going to do. I got the 120ST refractor (haven't used it in quite awhile) and the glass solar filter out. With the short focal length of the scope I like the 2" eyepiece experience. I got to enjoy the nice view and got to see the two newest active regions (AR 2960 and AR 2961) and increased the magnification with the ES 9mm 100 degree 2" eyepiece for a closer look. I started to put everything away and then I said to myself; "How about a couple of photos" since it is a nice day (79 degrees). It was great to look through the eyepiece with an old friend again. I hope that you enjoy the photos and now I have to take care of my lower back pain.

Good for you @Makuser . Weather has not been favorable here. Every time there is sunlight coming through the windows it's been filtered through rather thick high muck.

Hi nFA. The pollution we have here is all of the oak tree leaves and pollen sacs. You can see that in the photo at the edge of the driveway. I have swept it up everyday this week.
Hi Andrey. Oh yes, the finder scope caps were in place. I don't want set fire to my shirt or hair while observing. I use the center of shadow method to align the scope on the sun first and then fine tune with the RA and DEC control knobs.
