Help on locating part for Orion 80mm short tube

#1

Post by sholak »

I have an old short tube that I am missing the end piece that holds the 1.25" eyepiece (see attached image.) I see similar parts online but not sure if there would be a thread match where it screws on to the tube.

Orion support won't help because I'm not the original owner and can't tell them the date / purchaser; I got it used years ago.

Can you help me find this part or a substitute?

Are you missing the entire barrel that travels in and out of the focuser or just the end piece where the eyepiece attaches? Maybe an actual photo of your problem will help, not the catalog image. I'm sure we can point you in the right direction.

Greg,
I'm missing the piece that threads onto the screw of the focuser barrel--just the end piece where the eyepiece attaches with the thumbscrew. If you imagine unscrewing the piece I have circled, which is the piece that accepts the eyepiece, that's what I'm missing.

So you need a 1.25" barrel with an eyepiece thumbscrew at one end and the other end that screws into the focuser?

If so, does the barrel need to have male or female threads?

Then this should do it. I'm just not sure if it's the right length, but it has the right ends.
