IC2118

Post by ic_1101 »

Hear is IC2118, the Witch Head Nebula, a target I've been trying to image for the last 4 years but the weather had never cooperated. Finally this week I managed to get a few hours on it even though the seeing was not the best.
This was captured on January 2nd and 3rd using the Zenithstar 61 at 360mm with the QHY268C. Comprised of 51 x 300sec subs for a total of 4hrs 15min. Processed in APP and Pixinsight. Thx for looking and C&C always welcomed.

Hello Alex. This is a beautiful Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118) image. Although only 900 light-years from Earth and an interesting winter time target, this faint object is difficult to capture. You have excellent contrast and lots of detailed galactic cloud dust in your processed data. Thanks for sharing this fine work with us Alex and congratulations on receiving the TSS APOD Award today.

Hi Alex
Excellent shot. This is a faint object. You've done very well to get its intensity/density up so high.

Congratulations on the APOD
