Crater Illusion Question

#1

Post by Refractordude »

Yesterday evening while observing the Moon I had no crater illusion issues. The moon was low in the night sky. Perhaps when the Moon is low or at a certain angle prevents crater illusion. What say you? Thanks all.

I am interested in this illusion also.
I like to see it from time to time...3D moon...inverted craters😊
When I have observed this I have overcome it by taking my eye away from the EP for a moment or nudging the telescope.

Happens to me now and again as well. Like you taking eye away from view for a moment brings the view back to normal. Alternatively, when it happens I am also able to sometimes "will" the view to switch back and forth as well. It is interesting. I would assume it is related to the Hollow-Face illusion -- https://www.brainfacts.org/thinking-sen ... e-illusion
