nPAE Southern Hemisphere Competition 2021 Winners

#1

Post by nPAE »

It’s with immense pleasure we announce the winners of this year’s nPAE Southern Hemisphere Astrophotography Competition!

As you saw from the quality of the final 16 it was an enormous challenge, only complicated further by the public vote which saw almost 5,000 people take part!
The worst thing about judging this kind of contest is that not everyone can win. We thank all of our contestants for entering and for the effort they put into the competition. So, without further ado. The winners in reverse order are:

3rd Place – winning a £50 nPAE Voucher is…

Janco from South Africa with his “An eternal war for the astronomer's imagination”.

Taken with an impressive hardware stack of a Skywatcher Esprit 100ED APO Triplet, Imaging camera: ZWO 1600MM-COOL, Mount: Sky Watcher NEQ6 pro, Guiding telescopes or lenses: Skywatcher Esprit 100ED APO Triplet, Filters: Chroma Sii 3nm · Chroma OIII 3nm · Chroma 5nm HA, and a ZWO EFW 36 mm Filter Wheel.

The judges were particularly impressed by the the length of integration at 20 hours and 50 minutes for this fabulous image of NGC6188.

2nd Place – winning an nPAE Theia Astro Imaging Filter Changer is…

Simon from New Zealand with his Dark Wolf Nebula.

Imaged using a Stellarvue SV80ST refractor and a ZWO ASI1600 camera sitting on top of a AP1200GT mount, this image of Barnard 288 has stunning contrast and resolution. We hope Simon has fun with the latest addition to his setup.

1st Place – winning £200 cash is…!

Hugo from Argentina with his Helix Nebula. Congratulations!

Taken with a Meade series 6000 APO 130 on an iOptron CEM60 mount using a ZWO Asi 1600 Camera at -20. The series of subs Hugo used were Ha Astrodon 3 nm filter: 25 Lights x 600s OIII Astrodon 3 nm filter: 25 Lights x 600s SII Astrodon 5 nm filter: 15 Lights x 600s 50 Darks, 50 Dark Flats, 50 Flats, 300 Bias. HOO+S Palate.
In many ways the quality of this NGC 7293 capture speaks for itself. Nicknamed the Eye of God this planetary nebula is about 650 light years from earth.

Well done to Hugo, he now goes forward to challenge for the nPAE World Champion Astrophotographer 2021 title.

The nPAE 2021 World Champion Astrophotographer title will pitch last year's winner Boris from Chile with his Grito Galactio, against Lorand from Hungary who won the 2021 Northern Hemisphere round with his Andromenda, against Hugo's Helix Nebula in a public vote on the 15th to 24th October.
