I have a first edition of "The Messier Album" by Mallas and Kreimer I bought new in 1987 and I have been recording my visual observations in it since that time. I finally got around to putting them in a spreadsheet and am submitting them for the first two tiers of the Messier Visual Award.
This single book covers my entire time in Astronomy! It is like a walk down memory lane. The oldest observation is from Sept 1987 2 months before my youngest son was born and covers camping trips, trips to my parents place in Maine and down the Cape and with the Boy Scouts.
