Supernova in NGC 1325 (Eridanus)

#1

Post by kt4hx »

A new type Ia supernova is currently active in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1325 in Eridanus. Here is the data for the galaxy: mag=11.5, size= 4.7''x1.6', SBr=13.6. The galaxy is oriented northeast-southwest and SN2021yja, currently listed at mag 14.5, is found at the southwestern tip well away from the core brightness. Here is an image to illustrate in position (small yellow arrow) within the galaxy. Image credit belongs to Jean-Claude Merlin).

Moon's probably going to mess things up, but I scheduled a shot with the SLOOH half meter tonight.
