Re: The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!
Hi all. I am just getting caught up on this great thread. This morning, between the on again off again rainstorms here (at least it's not snow), my friend Hank flew in for a visit. I call him Hank because the sound the Ibis birds make sounds like "hank". He is the largest of the flock and is usually accompanied by many more white ibis birds and must be the "patriarch". However today, his only companion was a single, much lesser seen black ibis. He came up to me as usually, in fact sometimes he will eat out of my hand. The black ibis was new to this yard and a little more cautious. I brought out the bread, and the black ibis must have thought; "hey this is ok", as he came up fairly close. I went in to get my camera, and they were already walking away in the yard by this time. When they saw me, they both came back and I got this shot of the two. Then, I had to quickly go back in and get another slice of bread for them. Boy, can these ibis birds eat a lot for their size. I hope that you enjoy this photo.

Here in Oz the Ibis is often referred to as a "bin chicken" in reference to one of their favourite "feeding stations" in urban environments...
They do love their food.

We've got 3 pairs of Great Egrets (Silberreiher) on the watered meadow down in the valley, but too far to shoot some pics.
There are no Ibis here.

Hi John. A very austere and ominous winter road scene for sure. Here is one from 1981 on the way to my first service call, when we still lived in rural northeastern Illinois.

Last year it was well into Summer before the local hawks came around to have their photos snapped while soaring. I'm hoping they won't be as shy this year as I was able to catch this one on Thursday afternoon. Lots of lazy circles overhead and several passes.
