Need some feedback on my images

#1

Post by Lokifish »

So I'm trying to decide on which format to use on my bordered images. The first has basic target info, gear used, and exposure data. The second replaces gear/exposure data with more detailed target info. I like both formats equally, so you guys get to decide.

Look at both, and give the one you prefer a like.

I like them both.
Consider the target audience for your image.
The boarder for the top image should work better for laymen.
The boarder for the bottom image would probably be more suited for people interested or experienced in astronomy/astrophotography.

I Agree with Caddman.
I like them both.

To pick just one I would maybe tend toward the first one. But really either one is a very nice presentation of the work.

You can't go wrong Russ ! :-)

Thanks for the feedback guys. It helped to bounce the idea off others. I'm going with the extended info border as Caddman brought up a good point about the layman. Plus, I can always give the exposure info if asked, or when I post it. I even modified the GIMP Astronomy Plugins script so that it's pre-formatted. All I need to do is make sure the image is the correct size, then enter details and apply.

As an alternative: why not use both borders as Glenn suggested. Image one's data as the top border and image two's data as the bottom border modified to remove redundant info. Now everybody is happy!

Well being a non achiever I'd like some idea about the effort required to get that image rather than the distance etc. Keep them coming

I like the first format when sharing with non-AP individuals.

I like the second format when sharing with AP individuals.

Not sure "one size fits all" works with this kind of info.

Just my opinion, and, it's worth what you paid for it. By the way, nice job of aligning all the texts in the bottom border.

I'll write the exposure info on the back. All you have to do is flip it over. :lol:

As far as forum posts, and posts on my page, I tend give exposure details (and a bit more) to begin with. So I wouldn't be eliminating that data completely, just making it a "reading is fundamental" thing. About the only time you wouldn't get the exposure info, is when the images run as a slide show on my live stream while I fix an issue.

@JayTee
Unfortunately the template plugin doesn't allow for top and bottom panels, or additional lines of text. If it did, I could just put exposure info in as line three and call it a day.

@STEVE333
It's actually an function of the Astronomy plugin for GIMP. The only thing I did was rewrite the template script to give the result you see.

As someone already said - Who is your target audience for these images and what is your purpose for including the data? If you go to a gallery and see a photographer’s work, you typically don’t see any technical details about the image - just a title. Not saying this is the right answer for you but deciding who theses images are For will give you a good direction for your border.
As an example: for me, the end result of my images are prints which anyone who visits my home will see. Most, can’t spell astrophysics or astrophotography or even identify the moon 3 out of 5 nights ... :) so when I do a print the caption is simply the object’s common name if it has one or its catalog identifier if not and. then the distance it is from earth. “The Andromeda Galaxy. 2.5M Light Years From Earth”. I also never include the caption on the image so that the prints can stand alone and if I decide to change my mind I don’t need to reprint the image.
