Killing cookies to sign in

#1

Post by Chich »

For some reason I could not sign in on my laptop but had no problem on other cptrs. The sign-in page would appear, I'd have my username and password but when I clicked to sign in it would just go back to the main page. I tried different browsers (Chrome and Opera), disabling Ad blockers and other add-ons but no luck. I finally went in and removed all cookies related to the site which cured the problem. Should have tried that earlier in the process.

Hope this helps someone.

Clearing cookies resolves a lot of problems, for the reason that the cookie text refers to an older status of a page. It does not always (nor does any other "fix") resolve all problems. But as you pointed out Chich, it is something to try up front. Often times the best fixes are the simplest ones.

I just fired up an old laptop for the first time in months. After upgrading the Firefox browser, I found I had to do the cookie delete thing as well. All better now. Thanks for the heads up.

Look at the very bottom line of this thread on the far right-hand corner. You'll notice a button that says "Delete cookies". Try that first next time and see if that doesn't fix the problem. That bottom line is always there regardless of where you're looking in the forums.

Cheers,

Nice tip, JT. Not as much fun as searching through Firefox for just the TSS cookies, but very helpful.
