Image stabilized binoculars have been all the rage lately and I finally decided to take a dive. After doing some research on the internet I have selected Canon 15x50 as most suitable for my observing style and conditions. First impression The Canon 15x50 IS binoculars appeared to be well built but with...

Excellent review!

As the owner of a 10X30 IS II, I recognize a lot in this review. Especially when it comes to astro ( and day) observation, stabilized binoculars stand out head and shoulders above unstabilized siblings, so is my experience. For example, I use my stabilized 10X30 uninhibitedly for astro-observation, although I have a fine unstabilized 10X50 at my fingertips. In this review, we find examples of this sort of sublime observations aplenty.
In addition, there is sufficient attention to the "cons" to provide a balanced view of the possibilities.

Thanks, Bigzmey for this review!

Thanks nFA and John!

@John Baars John your recent enthusiastic reports about 10x30 IS reignited my interest in image stabilized. I am also considering getting another set from "group 2". I want to share the magic with my family and smaller binos will be easier for them to handle.

Great review Andrey,

The frequency response of IS is by design, targeted at muscle tremor and shakes. It's the same for camera IS. They don't have enough image shift to correct for large body movements. If they did, you would have to turn off the IS before changing targets. I pointed this out in a discussion on a solar eclipse mailing list when these were first released and some suggested that IS binoculars would cancel out the problem of ship roll and pitch for ship based solar eclipse observers.

Thanks Joe. Yes they don't aim to correct larger body movements, which is a good thing.
