LIGO to help with the three body problem:

From Chris Lintott in the Sky at Night Magazine (They used to have a forum, but they shut it down!)

The background for this topic is discussed on the Astrophysics forum. The issues is that some properties of observed LIGO mergers (the frequency of mergers as a function of mass) are hard to understand. The timescales for two body mergers are too long for what's observed. Folks are hoping that third body assists can make the merger proceed more quickly.

I'll go have a read. Cheers.
