Scientists Found Breathable Oxygen in Another Galaxy for the First Time
Frome Vice.com:
"Astronomers have spotted molecular oxygen in a galaxy far far away, marking the first time that this important element has ever been detected outside of the Milky Way."
https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/wxez ... first-time
An unusual source (for me anyway) but it points to the study report here:

"Breathable", LOL. Its density is probably about 1 molecule per cubic metre or less. You'd asphyxiate pretty quickly trying to breathe that.

Re: Scientists Found Breathable Oxygen in Another Galaxy for the First Time
I thought oxygen was fairly common. Certainly it is in the outer solar system - e.g., comets containing some H2O. But I suppose the pure O oxygen is not. At 581 million light years it's a long way to go to get to some breathable stuff. One imagines future astronauts scooping up oxygen molecules via a magnetic field or something like that to provide oxygen for their ship.

I was assuming that O2 by itself was not a common occurrence, hence the banner headline.
On second look, the headline states "first time detected outside the Milky Way," so perhaps a bit of click bait?

We were discussing this a couple of days ago, nothing but sensationalized headlines.
