I'm rained out for at least the next two days. Hope someone has clear skies if this develops into anything... ;)

About time something shows up! If it gets any more minimal it'll stop.

That would not be good.
But it might be cool. 😊....if it stopped.

I need to get some proper tools for solar viewing. The night skies have been somewhat frustrating this year.

I did the same thing to mitigate the night time frustration. It was then that I realized how incredibly windy it is during the day!

I'm not sure I fully understand how they can tell, but it strikes me that they have identified this as part of the old, outgoing solar cycle and not the new, upcoming solar cycle. I recall seeing it mentioned on Wikipedia that sunspots from the two cycles will overlap. Just interesting to see them actually identify which sunspot cycle this one belongs to.

For white light at least, it's been a frustrating year, so for that you're not missing much...:D

Best spot of the year so far has been AR2738, from the middle of April. With a core three times wider than our planet, is was an awesome view!

But that's been it. Most of the others (and there hasn't been many) have just looked like this; AR2734 from late Feb/early March:

For the sad facts about how solar activity is at an all time low, stats are at Spaceweather.com.

Hopefully were not in for another "Maunder Minimum"!

I noticed AR2749 yesterday, but decided not to image it. However, GONG shows what may be another developing spot just coming around on the east limb. If it continues to grow, I might consider taking a shot on Sunday.
