Radio telescope faces “extremely concerning” threat from satellite constellations

From SpaceNews.com:
"... “The prospect of constellations of tens of thousands of satellites is extremely concerning for radio astronomy,” he said. Operators, he suggested, could help by agreeing not to transmit when their satellites are passing over “radio quiet zones” surrounding the antennas."

To be fair, here's another quote from the article:
"... During a talk at the conference July 2, Federico Di Vruno, spectrum manager of the SKA Observatory, said the observatory had developed “flagging and excision” technologies to identify radio-frequency interference by satellites and removing it from the data. “This represents a loss of observing time,” he said, but such interference from the constellations by OneWeb and SpaceX would account for less than four percent of observations."

i doubt 10s of thousands of starlink will be launched -
1700 ish have been launched so far - 1st shell is what being called -
pretty sure 60 ish of early sats have been de orbited - test sats mostly -

Oneweb is around 160 total sats - I doubt they will put up 50 more -
already went bankrupt once - UK will change mind -

Starlink has All the advantages -
Have won satellite compation already

i have watched several talks on this and seems like concern is what Might happen-
but so far bad effects are minimal-

1700 satellites spread around globe is pretty spread out
time between starlink sats in each orbit is 5 minutes when fully in place -

s there is something like 106,000world wide airline flights a day
they have many radios each plane -

No one seems to care much because they ride on airlines
