TSS Live Star Parties!!!

#1

Post by Gordon »

As some of you are aware, member AstroBee (Greg) has been doing a few "Live" star parties.

These are great opportunities for members to get together in a "Live" setting and share ideas and methods. Members can even join in and do live AP. It's a pretty simple process if you have a remote setup, if not that's fine too as its fun to actually interact live with other members!!

The announcements will be posted here in the "Star Party Announcements" sub forum, and to help remind you we have set up a 'group' you can join to get a PM reminder.

Here's how to join the new user group: Members can join the group by just going to their UCP (user control panel), click on the "user groups" tab, and you will see the "AP Live" group listed in the "Non-Membership" area. You can click on the "select" button then click on "join selected" at the bottom of the page. That's it.

If you need help just ask a team member.

Thanks Gordon for the assistance with setting this up.

Here's the link for tonight. I'm hoping I'm up for this since I just 2 hours ago got my second C19 vaccine. Friday, April 2nd, 2021 - 8:30pm PST ( Saturday 4:30 am UT)
I'll hopefully be feeling ok and online for a few hours so if you are across the pond, you don't need to get up too early.

https://meet.google.com/sfd-yitt-nbn

I'm also going to send a PM via the usergroup as well.

Here are the results from last night's event for those that missed it. Thanks to Gordon, Michael, and Steve for joining in on the conversation.

These aren't great "finished-quality" images as these are all direct PNG exports from SharpCap Pro's Livestack feature.

We started out on the Cone Nebula.
6x 5 minute Ha exposures.
Image

We followed that up with the Leo Triplet but I didn't even bother saving an output of it. Luminance under my skies is not that great and my master flat for that channel just didn't seem to be working properly.
From there we moved on to the Flaming Star Nebula
The same 6x 5 minute Ha exposures.
Image

I followed that up with M51
12x 5 minutes Ha.
Image

And then on to M101
12x 300 seconds Ha
2x 600 seconds Ha
1 hour 10 minutes total integration time.
Image

And I called it quits after the moon rose with a final 34 minutes of 60second Ha exposures on M3 the Globular cluster in Canes Venatici.

Cool Yobbo89, Yeah, if you've ever had to attend a Zoom or Google Meets meeting, it's a simple process to switch between your webcam and your desktop.
Don't think though that you have to share your screen to join in on any of these events. If you want to just get together virtually and watch and chat, that's part of the fun too. Of course, the more different things to look at the better. Looking forward to you stumping us northerners with some of those beautiful southern objects that we've never seen!

To view, there will be a link, just click on it and the host will let you in. You don’t need to share your screen. If you wish to host a LIVE event, you can google “google meet” to get info and even play with it.

I should have signed in then. Instead I was on a virtual star party of mt Wilson, which was so so. The professional astronomers use similar imaging gear and tools like we do, an ATIK with live stacking, in color. They were fiddling around with the software more than I liked and could have used your help for a smoother presentation. That way they could have improved on the verbal part, which was now mostly about how to use the software tools.

I hope so too. I'd love to see some images from you and coordinate an evening (for you) when you have clear weather.
Or, let me know what day and time works for you to join here (-7GMT) and maybe I can set up a time to be online for you, weather permitting.
I've got plenty of free time right now until work comes back from the pandemic so I'm happy to work around other people's schedules.

Going camping in a Bortle 2 location tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday night so I'll be off the radar for a while.
