NGC 7479 from Canada

#1

Post by Kanadalainen »

September 22, 2019

Glenlea observatory, near Winnipeg
Temp 18*C, conditions were poor to fair, lots of humidity in the sky, seeing fair.

I was attempting to sketch NGC 7479 under some medium power views. I did find it without too much difficulty but the conditions were very bad... the object was too dim to see more than a slight irregular blob in the middle, no spiral arms seen. So, I will call this a fail...

I will wait until I can grab it with better seeing!

I don't know, Ian... It's been a while since I've done any "galaxy hunting" thru an eyepiece. But I doubt you're going to see much more than you've already seen with the poor seeing conditions. It's a pretty small target... However, if you do get a better view, that would be interesting.

Right, its a tough target to be sure. The weather doesn't look too promising this weekend, but if it clears a bit I will have another go. A central core smudge is really all I'm hoping for -

Kind regards,
Ian
