NGC3372 Eta Carinae Nebula

#1

Post by Gerald_db »

Apologies for the duplicate post in DSO images as well. Herewith my attempt at NGC3372.

With my new mono camera in China for repairs it was back to my modified Canon 1300D. Was going to sell it, no more.

I am really pleased with this image of the central area of NGC3372, The Carina Nebula or Eta Carinae Nebula. It is a large, complex area of bright and dark nebulosity in the constellation Carina, and is located in the Carina–Sagittarius Arm. The nebula is approximately 8,500 light-years (2,600 pc) from Earth.

Clearly visible is the Keyhole Nebula, just above the lower tip of the upper portion.

Apology not required Gerald. That's a great image.

The Carina is one of those you can look at for hours.

Regards

Graeme

As Graeme stated, no apologies necessary. I encourage folks to post their visual observations in the reports forum and images in the AP forum. Plus, when it comes to the objects that I select for the monthly DSO challenges, I encourage participants to also post applicable visual and imaging results here so that we can discuss those objects specifically. So never worry about duplication when it comes to this forum. It is encouraged! :)

I already commented on your image in the other thread, and what I said there stands. Your image is a fine one and is a prime example of why NGC 3372 is my very favorite emission complex based on my many observations. Well done Gerald. :)

Re my image. I was really bleak when my brand new ZWO 2600mm Pro croaked after about 3 hours of total exposure. With the replacement taking forever I was initially reluctant to head back to my OSC 1300D. How wrong I was. With careful processing and our cooler evenings this image exceeded my expectations. Critically I put a lot into the flats etc as they make or break it. I also did no DBE as I didn't want to remove any nebulosity. The focuser also allowed near perfect focus.
