I captured this image of M78 on 1/13/2021. I didn't know it was a submission item contest entry until tonight. This was 29x 180 seconds. With 20 Darks and 20 Flats. Canon T6 (unmodified) w/ UHC Clip Fiter on my AVX/C6N mount.

Thanks Ron. Not a contest per se, just a list of objects each month for folks to observe, sketch and/or image. I appreciate you sharing your results here and encourage any others who read this forum to check out the list for January and now February for some targets to pursue.

I notice in your image you captured (dimly) the other NGC components of the M78 complex, as I annotated below. Good job!

Nice M78 BK. Like a pair of eyes coming out of the fog!

The February list is a good collection of objects too. Here's hoping for some clear nights!

Regards

Late to the party here. Imaged this about 2 weeks ago and ran into some serious issues with my green channel (think green donut). Post processed to death and was able to salvage this. Look forward to trying this again next year from a dark site. This thing really needs time and I find it's just about impossible to do justice to the dark nebula from my Bortle 7-8 back yard. 60 frames @ 180s Lum, 30 frames @ 120s each RGB.

Never too late and thanks for a fine submission. I really like the detail and in particular, the dustiness of the environs around the primary nebula complex. Thanks a bunch for a really nice image.
