On the 8th of Januari I made a field sketch of M42 an M43. I didn't like it and tucked it away. Some days later I found it back in a pocket of my observation vest while changing eyepieces. I decided to finish it inside the house the other day. Normally I make a second sketch within an hour after the field-sketch. Not this time, I made the final one at once , without an in between sketch and is shown here.
As you can see photographing introduced Tungsten coloration and a gradiënt. Normally I do my best to take it out while using Irfan view and Paint. A fellow sketcher told me to use GIMP. So I did. It was a rather steep learning-curve. It took me two whole afternoons to achieve this pic. Next time I will be quicker.
Notice a sketch like visual observers will see M42 and M43 The Mairan's nebula. There is one major mistake in it. It is drawn on the field sketch as well, but in reality it is not there. Find it and you will earn three clear nights. But don't tell anyone
