What's the best Android based planetarium program?

#1

Post by jrkirkham »

On my laptop I use Stellarium more than any other planetarium program. On my Android phone I find myself using SkySafari the most. I just got a new Android based tablet. I plan to travel with it and leave my laptop at home when I fly. A person can get stuck using the same old methods all the time. I thought it might be a good time to check with everyone else and see what they use. So, what is your favorite Android based planetarium program?

Your copy of SkySafari will work on your tablet too. Use the same google account from your phone with the tablet and it should work.

I use mine on both and no longer use a PC based planetarium program.
Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.
Some people don't understand why I love astronomy so much, I cannot understand why they do not!

It looks like I am not alone with the combination I am using.

I wonder if there are any good phopto processing apps for Android? I always use my laptop for photoprocessing, but the tablet will work better When I fly.

Thanks everyone.

I would vote for SkySafari on Android, it is an amazing tool. I also have the PGC and Gaia extension databases. Great for controlling your scope via bluetooth.

You can also run it on a PC using BlueStacks (Android emulator). Good for planning your observations and exploring the sky on a much larger screen. It can be a bit flaky on the emulator but most of the time it works OK.
