Add a comet to Stellarium

Post by jazzin »

Can you add Comet 21/Borisov to Stellarium? And if so how do you do it? I see it's in the list of observable comets
Telescopes: Celestron 6" Newtonian, Orion 8" Astrograph

Guide scope: 50mm guidescope

Camera: modded Canon T7i, stock Canon T1i

Software: PixInsight

Easy enough to add a comet, but I see no way of adding 2I/Borisov. The plugin is not finding the ephemeris data from the Minor Planet Center.

I can get Stellarium to pull information on asteroid Borisov, but not the comet.

Maybe alexwolf can help with this?

C/2014 Q3 but it does't display on Stellarium. C/2014 R1 does show up.

Borisov has discovered a few comets. I do see the others listed, but not our particular interstellar interloper. I also see asteroid Borisov.

I do see Yo Mama (1I/Oumuamua) in there. No 2I/Borisov or C/2019 Q4 Borisov though.

Looks like C/2019 Q4 (Borisov) is included by default on the newest version of Stellarium v0.19.2.

Scott, you need to search for 2I/Borisov, not 21/Borisov. Two-eye versus Twenty-one. :)
